Essential oils have many virtues and can help you in many situations. It’s good to have a couple of them with you when you travel, to prevent and cure most common illnesses such as motion sickness, diarrhea, sunburns, mosquito bites… Here is a guide on some of the most useful essential oils for travel:
Essential oils, if not used correctly and on the wrong person, can be dangerous. Before using any essential oil, always check how to use it, in what amount and if there are any contraindications. Many EO cannot be used pure and have to be diluted, some cannot be ingested or put in contact directly with the skin, some are contraindicated for babies, children, or pregnant women or if you have certain diseases. Always check!

1 – Lemongrass Essential Oil
Lemongrass EO is also a powerful anti-inflammatory remedy. Massage painful muscles or joints with it to relieve tensions. It can be used as an antibacterial and as a deodorant too.

It also can come in handy in case of indigestion, you can massage your stomach with it and/or drink one drop (make sure to buy one that’s comestible)

3 – Peppermint Essential Oil
Peppermint essential oil is a great ally against motion sickness and nausea. Put a few drops on a tissue and breath through it.
If you’re prone to bad circulation and water retention, you can use it to massage your legs.

4 – Oregano Essential Oil
Be careful about how you use this one, high doses are dangerous. It’s not fit for children and pregnant or breastfeeding women and should never be used on the skin or breathed.

5 – Grapefruit Essential Oil
Grapefruit essential is excellent to prevent jet lag and limit its impacts. You can use it mixed in oil and massage it into your skin or put a few drops in your bath.

6 – Mountain Savory Essential Oil
Mountain Savory essential oil is great to give your immune system a boost and to prevent turista. Mix one drop with four drops of carrier oil, and apply once a day on your lower back. It’s also great for back pain.
Do not use directly on your skin, always dilute it with cream or oil.

7 – Wintergreen Essential Oil
Wintergreen Essential oil is great to have in case of a sprain. This oil is a powerful anti-inflammatory, painkiller and antispasmodic. Mix a few drops with carrier oil, and massage the area.

8 – Eucalyptus Radiata essential oil
Eucalyptus Radiata EO has real disinfecting powers with antiviral, antiparasitic, vermifuge, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and also anti-fungal properties. It’s helpful in case of cold, otitis, and sore throat. Pour a couple of drops on a tissue and breath one nostril after another. You can also dilute it with a carrier oil, and massage your upper back and solar plexus with it.

9 – Clove Bud Essential Oil
Clove EO is used in case of toothache or infection and can help cure mouth ulcers. It can also help with skin infections and diseases such as malaria or cholera. For toothache or mouth infection, apply directly with the help of a q-tip.

10 – Cinnamon Bark Essential Oil
Cinnamon bark EO cleans the intestinal flora and kills unwanted bacteria (and even viruses) radically but respectfully of other good bacterial strains. It is a regulator of transit, which can be used in case of constipation or diarrhea. Pour two drops on a little piece of bread crumb, close and roll well, swallow during a meal with a bit of water, repeat 2 to 4 times a day.
